The Inquiry Initiative is transforming the teaching of science and math at Southwestern University to incorporate the process of discovery at all levels and to generate a creative, accomplished, and diverse pool of future scientists.
Faculty throughout the Natural Sciences are incorporating the process of inquiry into introductory classes, upper level courses, and laboratories, and a new cadre of specially-trained peer mentors, the SCI Guides, will help students maximize their learning and critical thinking skills. Learning through discovery will continue for students who conduct research with faculty mentors in SCOPE, the Inquiry Initiative’s summer research program. Through intentional, evidence-based practices, we are building an even stronger and more successful scientific community here at Southwestern University.

Director of First Year Lab to partner with national project to examine anti-biotic resistance
The Fondren-Jones Science Hall is undergoing renovations that will expand laboratory space, offices, and classrooms, and will allow the Inquiry Initiative’s transformative effects to continue moving forward.
