Noor Tagouri, a first-generation Libyan American, Journalist and Activist to Present Breaking Barriers Through Storytelling at Southwestern
Noor’s presentation, Breaking Barriers Through Storytelling, shares a universally powerful message of acceptance and embracing individuality in a multicultural society.
Southwestern proudly welcomes Noor Tagouri, journalist, activist, storyteller, and founder of the #LetNoorShine campaign, to campus on Tuesday, November 7th. Noor’s presentation, Breaking Barriers Through Storytelling, shares a universally powerful message of acceptance and embracing individuality in a multicultural society.
Noor is a first-generation Libyan American and on-air journalist for Newsy. In 2012, she launched the #LetNoorShine campaign which went viral and gained her national attention. In October 2016, she made history as the first woman to appear in Playboy (fully clothed) wearing a hijab. She recently released a documentary series called “A Woman’s Job,” and she is working on a new documentary series focuses on sex trafficking in the U.S.
“The Noor Effect” is a movement dedicated to reclaiming the power of women “by normalizing the true representation of women in our society through different mediums.”
Noor is breaking barriers and exposing cultural injustices. She has a large and dedicated following on social media, and uses her platform to encourage others to realize their own potential in a multicultural society. Her passion for storytelling stems from the desire to expose cultural injustices and combat the challenges facing women on a global scale.
We invite students, faculty, staff, and the general public to join us at this inspiring event.
